Vigil and Walk on International Day of Peace September 21

RE and P&SC Committees again cosponsor the annual IDoP event at Meeting. A great opportunity for children, families and all at Meeting to share some quiet attention to peace – in ourselves, our Meeting, our neighborhood, our community and beyond.

The International Day of Peace is celebrated September 21st every year and is one of the traditions of our Meeting. We gather together to worship in silence with the purpose of focusing on peace. This year it falls on a Monday and we will come together at the Meeting House at 7:00 PM for 30 minutes of worship and followed by a Candlelight Vigil and ending with snacks in the Community Room.

This is the day the peoples and nations dedicate to the temporary ceasefire of wars, violence and fighting in combat zones. It is observed by all United Nations member states and was first celebrated in 1981. This event is about adults choosing peace, reconciliation, and the ending of military conflicts. However, it is much more. It was children from all continents donating coins to melt and to cast a “Peace Bell”. The inscription on its side reads, “Long live absolute world peace.” This Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters to inaugurate this day.

All are welcome to come and help celebrate the goal of peace for all peoples.

Friendly Eights for 2016-17

Sign-up sheets for Friend Eights groups will be posted beginning on September 11 and remain up until October 9. Friendly Eights are small groups that meet for a meal or other activity. Groups can be formed around any topic and are not limited to eight people. Sponsored by Care and Counsel.

Spiritual Formation Program 2016-17

The Baltimore Yearly Meeting Spiritual Formation Program invites its participants into a deeper spiritual experience through retreats, spiritual community, reading spiritual classics, and individual spiritual practices.

You are invited to participate in the Spiritual Formation program at Richmond Friends Meeting for 2016-17. Registration is open through September 18th.

The Spiritual Formation Program at the local level includes a monthly large-group meeting that includes everyone. In addition to the large group meeting, most people join a small group of 6 to 8 members who meet once a month to share spiritual journeys and daily spiritual practices.

Our first large group meeting will be held on Sunday, October 2 from 5-7 PM.

We will focus this year’s program around ‘Quaker Speaks’ videos which explore the core questions of our faith. Integrating the video with readings, books, articles and worship sharing.

From October through May, the monthly large group Spiritual Formation meetings will be on the 1st Sunday of the month from 5-7 PM beginning with a shared potluck.
